Collection of poetry , 1799-1824.

Volume of poetry, which also contains some prose and a journal entry, copied in two primary hands. The first 93 pages, in the first hand, comprises poems by "C. F.W.," one titled "By C.F.W. to his friend Mrs. Cobbold" (p. 37). Other poems are addressed to Letitia Proby, to "Harriet C." and others, some are dated 1793 to 1799, from Bristol and Ipswich. The second hand begins on p. 94 and copies a large number of poems by Elizabeth Cobbold or "E. C." some from Ipswich, some dated 1790-1812, many apparently unpublished. Mentioned in the poems or dedications to them are James Cobbold, Sarah Cobbold, the author's sister Jane Cobbold (author of several poems), and William Clarke. Also copied are poems by Pindar, Metastasio, Walter Scott, Swift, R.B. Sheridan, W.C. Harvey, Bernard Barton, Mr. Shaw, Mr. Proby, Lord Byron, and others. Journal entries dated June 4-21, 1795 are identified as "Mrs. Cobbold's Journal" (p. 181-202). The journal describes a visit to the Lake District, stays at Kendal and Keswick, extensive descriptions of landscape, scenery, and botanizing. A portion of the journal (p. 183-202) has been copied over by a third hand, making it somewhat difficult to read. Printed "Dirge to the memory of our Too Early Lost, and Ever Lamented Princess, Charlotte Augusta. As sung at the Amateur Concert, November 26th, 1817. Words by Mrs. Cobbold. Music by Mr. Danneley" is pasted onto p. 268. There are a number of other elegies to Princess Charlotte by a number of other authors, plus other occasional verse, including "The Victory of Trafalgar" (p. 387). Complete table of contents, pp. 362-365; partial table of contents on front endleaf.
